Well, I am very torn. I bought my 1990 Porsche 911 the summer of 2013 (this picture is not my car). I absolutely love my 911. It have had some slight suspension update (which has brought the ride height down to Euro spec) and cup 1 wheels (I still have the original wheels and suspension components) . The car is red with beige seats, a five speed with nearly 34K miles. I absolutely love my 911, it has brought me great joy and I have had fantastic memories with it. However, one car has nagged me since it's debut, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe. Fortunately for my 911 and my bank account, the lack of a manual transmission option in the F-Type swayed me away from seriously considering it.
As most of you probably know, the F-Type in V6 form will be offered with a manual transmission. I truly think that the F-Type is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. I know it is not the fastest or most track focused, but it is so special and unique. Though it is impossible to say, I believe the F-Type will age very well in the coming years.
So I am very seriously considering this trade. But fortunately, the manual option will likely not be available until the fall of 2015, so I have time to make a decision. What do you guys think?

I think it could be good, but the 964 will only appreciate in price. It doesn't sound like you would be keeping the 911 as a garage piece, but you have to think about what the market will look like in 10 years or so and ask yourself if you'll regret selling the 911. If you really want an F-Type, you could always start saving now and pick one up on the second hand market.

No don't do it, I have to buy it from you and I have no money. Especially since 964 prices are going even higher now, you're sitting on an appreciating vehicle.
Don't do it. :(

I'd say do it. That Jag is going to be a new classic. If you decide you're done spending time with your current semi-classic, the move on. If not, then appreciate your time with the 911.
(I'd be scared to own a 90 911; mostly because I have no garage to work on cars ATM).

As someone who just made the same sort of purchase. The Lotus was going up the Viper, getting cheaper. I decided to get what I loved. No money will replace the car you truly love and long for. You have to decide which that is for you.

The Jag will, most likely, be the most fun, but will depreciate. The 911 won't necessarily, and could actually appreciate, which is pretty important. On that basis, it depends on your personal budget and desire for fun.
I, personally without regards to finances, would go with the Jag, simply because I prefer a more, brash, wild-like car. Now the V6S isn't an insane Viper, but it's still probably more wayward than the Beetle:)

Don't do it! The Jag will depreciate, and the Porsche will appreciate.

If you decide to do it, wait till the F-Types with a manual are 2-3 years old. Let them depreciate some, while the 964 appreciates even more. You could be talking a $20-30K dollar savings on the Jag, and another $20K+ appreciation on the 964. Unless you just hate money. Is yours a 4 or 2?

Jaguar will build many more F-types, but Porsche is never going to build another 964. The F-type is going to depreciate in the coming years, potentially massively as it is a Jaaaag. Whereas the value of your 964 has nowhere to go but up. Do what makes you happy, but I'd keep the Porsche.

Thanks for the response guys. I do love my 911, but the F-Type has nagged me for so long. I am a big believer of not buy inner cars due to the depreciation hit. My concern is that there will not be a lot of people buying the F-Type with the manual and that they will be hard to find used or will not depreciate much. Due to this fact, I am leaning towards buying one new.

Nope, don't... Wait until you can afford to have both. But DO NOT sell the Porsche, it's the kind of thing you will end up regretting terribly.

It is a C2. Your point is extremely valid. I am nervous that the manual F-Type will go up in value or stay relatively the same in value. I believe that most of the used F-Types available in 2 or 3 years will be automatics off of lease. I feel that enthusiasts that order the manual will hold onto them.

Maybe GT350R?
But ya thats a tough decision. as much as I love the F-Type your Porsche might be come worth more very soon.

YES YES YES YES... UM.... YES. Go for the V6S Coupe; as much as I loved driving the V8 (R) it's just too much.. V6s is perfect IMO.

That Porsche is going to become worth more than the F-Type very soon. The F-Type is new and will be in production for some time yet unless Jag suddenly disappears. Its successor has just as much chance of being even better in every way and then you'll really be up a creek.

Dang - I don't think this kind of purchase really should depend on a grand or two of appreciation/depreciation. That is an absolutely beautiful 911, but if you'd be happier with an F-type then there you go. (Rest assured, somebody will be very happy with your C2 when you get the Jag.)

Take a step back and think about this.
The jag is gorgeous, but it's a mass-produced luxury gt car. These cars always see massive depreciation. Yes, manuals will likely be much harder to find, but not impossible. You own a car which is no longer produced and which sees its numbers dwindle every year while its value increases.
Do what you want but no way I sell the 964 unless it was to buy another collector car that will appreciate.

Modify the Porsche, make it more "Singer like" or something... make it yours... But don't sell it.

You could say a lot of the same things about the Aston Martin V8 Vantage or Ferrari 456 - beautiful cars with a manual option. Those have both depreciated quite a bit. I think F Type is bound to do the same. That said, I think 911 prices are on a bit of a bubble and 964 prices are benefitting vicariously. Its not the rock solid investment others are making it out to be, especially if you want to put some miles on it. Just buy whatever you love and can afford.

The 911 and the F-Type are perhaps my two favorite cars. I think though the Jag is more unique, and will garner more attention. Plus this may be one of the last times you will be able to spec out your own brand new sports car with a stick. And I feel we are all obliged to buy a stick shift F-Type to reward Jaguar for building a stick and encourage them to continue to do so.
In short, get the F-Type

I dunno. Maybe its different regionally, but in Louisiana: Jaguars plummet in value. I think the logical answer is wait a few years. Your Porsche goes up, the Jag goes down, and the decision gets a lot easier.
How strong is your illogical lust for the Jag?

In my opinion the only things where the 911 wins are money and handling. Then again, the F-type is less likely to kill you if you push it too hard. But yeah, tough decision.
